Change. It's inevitable. It happens. And you just have to deal with it. But sometimes, that change can be exactly what you need. And the change that occurred at Grey's Anatomy this summer was beyond amazing. There are not words to describe the start that the show's fourth season had. We knew a change was gonna come, and it certainly did. Addison is gone. Burke is gone. Richard is still Chief. Callie is Chief Resident. Meredith, Cristina, Izzie, and Alex are residents and have interns. George ad Lexie, Meredith's half-sister, are among those interns. And through all of these changes, what emerged? It was none other than the "old," the "classic," the sexy, the funny, the shocking, the dramatic Grey's Anatomy we all love so much.
But where to begin? Out of all the changes, where do you start? We'll start with the missing characters.
Addison is gone. Moved to LA and Private Practice. Burke is gone and we've got no idea where he is. And, yet, the show works flawlessly - if not better - than ever before without them. Sure, they didn't dwell much on Addison moving, but it was really great to see the aftermath of everything with Burke being dealt with. It's going to be an interesting thing to watch for the next few weeks - or however long - as well.
Chyler Leigh - a new addition to the cast as Lexie Grey - fits in perfectly. She fits the Grey's Anatomy style so well. We really get to see a different side to her as well in this episode. all of the fans just assumed she would be this idiotic, annoying moron, but that is so not the case. She is strong. Smart. And an amazing person. And me? Well, I really like her. Really do. And I'm really interested to see the friendship between her and George grow because that could become an amazing (but hopefully not problematic) dynamic this season.
It was great to see our new residents have their own interns and each try to live up to Bailey's direction, and each, consequently, failing. I'm glad that Shonda didn't go the clichéd route and have Lexie be Meredith's intern, and George as Izzie's.
It amaze me that Lexie and George (and Callie, Meredith, Cristina, Izzie, and Alex as well I guess) are going to keep George's internship repeat a secret. I think that it could be an interesting dynamic this season that could cause some amazing drama.
I was shocked when, in the final moments, George told Izzie he loved her. I knew it was coming...I had read the spoilers. But I was still shocked. I love Gizzie. They are so cute together. Problem is, I'm also a Lexzie fan and after months and months of though I'm still not sure I actually want them to stay together, but I simply cannot wait to see where their story goes.
And now for the MerDer of it all...how amazing was that? I mean, seriously?! Their story was amazing in this episode and its going to be really interesting to see where it goes next. This time the break-up made sense. It wasn't even much of a break-up. And the kiss? The sex? Possibly the hottest thing since prom sex. Whoever decided on the slow motion should be promoted.
The only concern I currently have is that there's going to be too much of the new interns. However, I don't think we have to worry about that. Shonda's smart. I don't think she'll shift the focus.
Overall, this was 45 minutes of perfection. It was perfection, the magic is back (although I don't think it ever left) and I cannot wait for next Thursday. Mama's back!
