OK, so, I had huge expectations coming into this episode and no idea what to
expect. You guys over at ABC released very little on this episode (one press
release, one promo, no pictures) and I realize that this could very well be
the final episode of the season (and, honestly, it probably should've been
marketed as such). Let's just say that my expectations were exceeded. By
miles and miles. As amazing as "Crash Into Me, Part Two" was,
"Lay Your Hands on Me" was just so much better. Fans have been
complaining for over a season now that the characters haven't had any
growth. That there haven't been happy endings. And that the show just
feels sad. That all changed tonight. Sure, there still weren't any happy
endings (something I'm not happy about), but all of the characters were
called on their crap (Meredith, Derek, and Lexie with their trust issues,
George who needs to grow up, Izzie who needs to know what to do, etc) and it
felt tonight as if there was an actual growth on the show. I loved all of
the callbacks to previous occurrences (Addison showing up, Tuck being named
after George, etc) and am especially interested in seeing what's in store
for Alex, since his mysterious past was, once again, brought back up. The
main thing that bothered me was the fact that Ava left - again. She just
keeps coming and going, and there's never really a point to it. Hopefully,
there will be a point to it at some point.
Now, I knew Bailey would be doing the voiceover tonight. There had been a
ton of hoopla surrounding it. But I totally forgot tonight, and so I started
watching the episode, waiting for Meredith's voiceover, and I hear Bailey's.
To be honest, I didn't like it. Chandra Wilson is an amazing actor, but I
didn't like her voiceover. I know a lot of critics are critical of
Meredith's voiceover, but I love them (as do most fans, actually).
Considering this episode was completed by the network (or whatever
powers-that-be over there at ABC), this was pretty amazing. It felt just
like another episode of Grey's Anatomy. It could be months before we
see another episode, and that makes me sad, because so much was put in
motion during this episode that just makes the show so much better...
