When I first saw all of the details for this episode - the
pictures, the summary from ABC, the promos - I was a little skeptical.
I wasn’t so sure this was going to be a good episode. But I was excited
to watch it tonight - I was ready for a new Grey’s. And, damn, if
everyone of my expectations were greatly exceeded.
“In the Midnight Hour” was simply a fantastic episode. Although the
Denny storyline currently makes no sense (seriously, where is it
going?!), it actually comforted me to see that Izzie was freaking out
about seeing Denny too - although I’m sure some find it annoying, I
find it reassuring that Izzie is still constantly freaking out about
him. It makes it real, it makes it … well, it makes it so that it works
for Grey’s. But I really wish the purpose of his reappearance would be
made known. I really wish it would. That would be very nice.
George was back! After like two weeks where he was nowhere to be seen,
it was great to see him back in tonight’s episode! Especially the
moment between him and the interns - intense. But it makes me wonder
where they are heading with Lexie, since they seem to be setting her up
with both George and Mark (I don’t know which couple I want to happen
more!).
Poor Callie tonight. That was, well, it was sad. But I think it was
kind of an epiphany for her, sitting on the bed with a broken nose and
Mark fixing her and then the conversation with Bailey at the end.
Callie’s had an incredibly crappy year, and she’s brought almost none
of it on herself, so I’m hoping that after tonight’s episode something
will happen and she’s going to try and turn her life around.
The opening scene with Meredith, Sadie, Alex, and Derek in the hallway
listening to uh…Izzie. That was classic. Especially when Meredith
yelled for Derek. LOVED IT!
Sadie’s kinda crazy. I don’t know if I like her. But I think maybe she
wasn’t always this way, and I think the final scene between her and
Meredith showed that. I think, just like the other Grey’s characters,
she’s messed up and hopefully this was a moment of realization for her.
The whole interns-gone-wild storyline, it made sense to me. It’s true
that even though our original interns are now residents and have their
own interns, we’ve seen almost nothing of them teaching their interns.
And they want to learn. So I think it made sense. But I loved loved how
Cristina and Meredith handled the whole thing - it was just what
Richard said to them, before Lexie interrupted. The scene where the
residents put all of their interns on probation - that was powerful.
Great. And totally awesome. So was the scene between Meredith and
Cristina where they fought. I don’t think they’ve ever really fought
before on the show, so it is kind of neat to see a new dynamic to their
relationship, but I hope that even if they do fight, it doesn’t last
for long because their relationship on the show is great.
And as weird as it to say this, I’m a TV junkie and want to run my own
show one day, so I notice these things, but I love how they’ve
restructred the opening 8 minutes of each episode, placing the main
title in a different spot each week, moving it in from before the
commercial break. It’s awesome, I love it (it looked especially neat
tonight!).
OH! And I just remembered! The final, final scene? Where Izzie chose
Alex instead of Denny? YAY! Sorry, I love Denny and it’s actually kind
of neat to see him back, but it’s totally Alex and Izzie all the way
for me - and most people, honestly. That was a great moment.
I really, really enjoyed tonight’s episode - I thought that there was a
lot of great character development made and it progressed the story
along really well. It was incredibly well written (Tony & Joan are
awesome writers - I’ve loved them ever since they wrote season two’s
“Fight or Flight”) and the acting, as always, was perfection. It’s sad
that Grey’s isn’t on for Thanksgiving, but it is understandable. I’m
really excited for “All By Myself” though - it looks to be a promising
episode!
