I
wasn't really sure what to expect going into tonight's episode of
Grey's. The title, All By Myself, had me a little worried. I was
worried all of the characters were going to, well, be all by
themselves. And I guess in a sense they were, but, just...wow. This
episode, it was great. And it was incredibly sweet - a word I never
thought I'd use when describing Grey's, but was the only word that kept
popping in my head throughout the entire night.
I honestly wasn't sure who Cristina was going to pick. I figured it
wouldn't be Meredith - I actually would've been shocked had she been
picked. I actually thought it would be Izzie that would be chosen for
some reason, but then she picked Alex, and damn. I'm so glad she did
because it led to the "I love you scene." That scene is going to go
down in history, I can just tell. It was just perfect. It would've been
more perfect without Denny's interference, but, still. It was totally
unexpected yet totally amazing and awesome.
The only thing that bothered me about tonight's episode - and by
"only," I literally mean only - was that it felt like there was a lot
of underlying things taking place that just weren't explained. Looking
back on it now, I guess some stuff - like Mark being so weird - does
make sense, but like when Richard told Sadie that the only reason she
was still at Seattle Grace was because of her father, I was like "Huh?"
It was kind of out of left field.
I loved the sister storyline. The actress (was it Kay Panabaker? I know
it was a Panabaker, I'm just not sure which one) was incredibly
powerful. It was great. I loved it. I also loved Owen tonight! We got
to see a different, sweeter side to him and it made me like his
character all the more, especially when he took Cristina to the vents
at the end of the episode, which was absolutely fantastic. I couldn't
stop smiling during that scene.
One thing I like about the new writers, as tonight's episode was
written by a new writer, is that they always seem to draw upon and
reference the past, which is something I've noticed that the older
writers tend to shy away from. However, I love it when the past is
referenced, and it was many times tonight and I felt, I don't know,
rewarded for watching and catching it all. It made me feel like they
actually remembered past events and made it so much more real. That was
awesome.
I guess that I shouldn't be surprised that Cristina and Meredith are
fighting - they were going to have to at some point over the course of
the series. But they are just such good friends that it's honestly kind
of saddening to watch them fight and I wish they wouldn't. I think it
is going to bring a great new dynamic to the following episodes though.
And I am SO glad that someone - George - is finally starting to notice
that something is wrong with Izzie. It was beginning to feel like this
storyline was just progressing too slowly, but I now feel satisfied -
for the moment. As I've said before, I'm also thrilled that Izzie
realizes something is wrong with her (although she isn't doing anything
about it!), but I can't wait to see how this storyline ends ... and
what is left in the aftermath (PLEASE don't break Alex and Izzie up
again, PLEASE!).
Overall, it was an incredibly amazing - and sweet! - episode of Grey's
that went by far too quickly and left me waiting for more. The promo
shown at the end was incredibly awesome - Meredith and Derek dancing!
YAY! Izzie freaking out! Intriguing! Death Row patient! Looking forward
to it! It really looks like the second half of season five is going to
be way more exciting and amazing than the first half - which was pretty
awesome to begin with. I'm also really excited for the crossover
episodes as well! I'm hoping that Callie and Mark go to LA...That would
just be plain awesome. And Violet and Naomi come to Seattle! Oh, how
great that would be.
