Lexie Grey and Mark Sloan are a hot item now. Their love for one and
other is...enthusiastic, to say the least. In fact, their love making
is so exuberant Lexie broke Mark's penis. Ouch!
I know what you're thinking...penis fracture? That doesn't sound real.
I mean, I'm not a doctor but I took biology and know enough about
anatomy to know there're aren't actually any bones in the male
reproductive system.
So what exactly breaks?
The tunica albuginea which covers the corpus cavernosum. Not up on your
penile anatomy? The tunica albuginea is the strong fibrous connective
tissue that surrounds the corpus cavernosum, which is the erectile
tissue. It's broken when they tear -- which -- as indicated by Mark
Sloan's epic scream -- is HORRIBLY PAINFUL.
How does it happen?
Typically, it happens during sexual intercourse when the woman is on
top and the man is fully erect. While erect the penis is at its most
vulnerable. It's rigid like an arm or a leg and if it's bent or moved
the wrong way...it breaks. First there is a snap (people often say they
actually heard a "crack") and then there's pain. Occasionally there's
even blood.
If this happens to you or someone you care about (or even if you don't
care about them)... get to the emergency room. Immediate surgical
repair is needed because doing nothing can result in curvature or
impotence. If it's done soon enough, recovery time is just a few weeks
. Mark Sloan isn't willing to risk it so he grits his teeth and suffers
through the embarrassment of enlisting Dr. Owen Hunt to do the repair.
Lexie comforts him and all is well...or it will be in about two weeks.
